My name is Madison Temkin and I am 16 yrs old. My horse Kingslee is a 19 yr old OTTB. This year Kingslee and I have been selected to compete at NAJYRC for Area VI at the 2* level. After competing at NAJYRC in 2015, I set my eyes on going back but this time for the 2* level.
Kingslee and I hit a major road block last year after he had emergency colic surgery. Young Riders was out of the question for 2016 and I started to set my eyes on Young Riders 2017. Kingslee and I started out the year doing a preliminary horse trials at March Twin Rivers and then we went on to do our first CIC2* at March Galway Downs. He was spectacular that whole weekend and we got our qualifying ride for NAJYRC. A couple weeks went by and I was really just working on getting Kingslee fit and feeling good. We then went to The Event at Woodside and Kingslee had a nice dressage test and our first clean intermediate show jumping round. We decided to withdraw before XC as he didn’t need another run. A few weeks went by and I got the email that Kingslee and I had been selected.
After some more galloping and hard work, we hit the road to Young Rider camp. Kingslee felt amazing at camp having two great dressage schools and one awesome jump lesson with our Young Rider coach Bec Braitling. We went into San Luis Obispo and found some great jog outfits for Rebecca Farm as well! Young Rider camp was tons of fun and I loved hanging out with everyone and watching them have great lessons on their own horses. Young Rider camp is definitely a fun way to meet new people in your Area and have some summer fun! I want to give a big thank you to the Baxter family for allowing and welcoming us to use their beautiful facility. I also want to thank everyone else who made camp happen, and Kristin Hogan for keeping us so well fed! I am so thankful and excited for this opportunity. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible for me; my friends, family, sponsors, vets, farrier and my mom and trainer extraordinaire. I couldn’t do any of this without her. But the biggest thank you of all goes to my King. Thank you boy for being my horse of a lifetime. Area VI, we hope to make you proud!
